THE MISSION Act 1, Scene 2 The Best Year So Far Sixth grade was a special year for me. I was so ignorant and so blissful to the world, I felt like nothing could rupture my bubble of happiness. Back then it was all about Legos, D&D, and my BMX bike. I didn't have to worry about being cool, or girls, or whether terrorists were going to drop biological agents across the West coast. Even the threat of nuclear war, which was very real in the 80s, seemed like a distant dark fantasy. Then middle school came along and ruined But now I'm all grown up, and I keep down a job that pays well, I have a girl who likes me, and I have time enough to go back and start playing with my games and Legos again. In short, I want to be as happy and carefree as I was in 1982. Sure, sure, I still have bills to pay, and I can't seem to get paid for staying home and playing computer games. Wait, yes, I can get paid for that. Granted, it's not what I'm supposed to be doing, but "working from home" can be a beautiful thing. Here at Pie Driver we yearn for the days of old, when every time we turned around we saw the potential for fun and amusement, not Celine Dion and George W. and people killing each other because they believe in different gods. Here at Pie Driver we're ruthlessly clinging to our inner children because, as they say, our children are our future. We hope you can join us in finding the inner child in all of us. Quite frankly, just about everyone takes life a little too seriously, and we've had enough of that. We want people to realize that this one life we have shouldn't be filled with corporate hacks who crank out regurgitated retro crap, or cheesy soprano saxophone solos, or SUVs that eat away at our environment and threaten to run us over when we cross the street. Life should be about helping each other raise a smile, adding to the beauty of life, and creating art for arts sake, not just for another dollar. We should be evolving toward happiness, not away from it. So come, check us out. Write to us. Tell us what's on your mind. We'll be here for a while, and we always like to make new friends. Cheers.
